Around and about
Thassos island is the most northerly of all the Greek islands and can be found in the Aegean Sea nestled between the Halkidiki Peninsular and Kavala. Conveniently, it is only 6 kilometres away from the nearest port on the mainland. Along with its stunning natural beauty this is one of the reasons for Thassos's popularity: no lengthy ferry boat journeys. In fact, Thassos is only 35 minutes away from the mainland port of Keramoti.
Thassos is almost circular and has a rugged beauty, with the Ipsarion Mountain range dominating the interior of the island. The mountains are covered in rich and dense forests, mainly pine but also plane and oak are dominant, there is even an ancient cedar forest. You will find mountain streams which cascade over waterfalls until ultimately reaching the sea and the wonderful beaches.
Nikolas Studios is located just 100 meters from the crystal clear waters of Golden Beach. Golden Beach is one of the most well known beaches on the island best known for its length, extending up to three kilometers, its clear blue waters and the multitude of water sport activities that it has to offer.
Panagia is a traditional Thassian village just a few kilomteres from Nikolas Studios Villas and is named after its church, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Panagia). The village's name, along with its eleven surrounding chapels, illustrate the piety of the region, and in 1845 Panagia was the capital of the island. Panagia is the most quaint and picturesque village on Thassos, and is so important architecturally that its buildings are protected from modernisation. The village is shaded by large plane and sycamore trees, and refreshed by natural springs which bubble along the streets.
